INSIGHT data assists breakthrough in geographic atrophy diagnosis

A team at Moorfields Eye Hospital Ophthalmic Reading Centre and Clinical A.I. hub has developed a fully automated, deep-learning model (algorithm) that can detect and quantify geographic atrophy using standard eye scans. They were able to test the algorithm using a set of routine eye scans from patients at Moorfields Eye Hospital, which are available through INSIGHT.

Find out more about geographic atrophy and how the researchers were able to teach the algorithm to detect it on the NIHR Moorfields Biomedical Research Centre website.

You can also hear Dr Konstantinos Balaskas, lead researcher and Director of the Moorfields Reading Centre, talking about the development on the BBC Radio 4 programme In Touch.
